Who can get a Golden Visa in Portugal?

Investors from non-EU/EFTA countries can apply for a Golden Visa.

How do I extend my residency and how much does it cost to participate in the programme?

The main basis for extending the residence permit under the Golden Visa programme is the right to own real estate.

The state fees per person are:

  • 1st renewal - at the end of the 1st year - 540 euros;
  • 2nd renewal - after the 3rd year - 540 euros.

Are there any requirements to apply for a Gold Visa?

General requirements for applicants regardless of the amount invested:

  • Possession of the acquired property for a period of 5 years;
  • Transfer of the full amount of the investment from the overseas account to the Portuguese account;
  • Document proving legal entry and authorisation to stay in Portugal;
  • Lack of deportation history with immigration authorities;
  • No criminal record;
  • 7-day stay in Portugal during the first year;
  • Residence in the country for 14 days in each of the following 2 year periods.

Can I apply for Portuguese citizenship?

Yes. After the fifth year of residence in Portugal, the investor can apply for a permanent residence permit as well as citizenship for himself and his family members.

How much does the programme cost?

The cost of participation in the programme depends on the number of people in the main investor's family who qualify for a residence permit. To get the exact cost, please use calculator on the website, which among other things will describe the content of the various associated services and fees.

Do I need to reside in the purchased property?

No. The property can be rented out. In addition, a favourable option is to invest in mutual funds, which provide for unit investment in hotel complexes under reconstruction, with a guaranteed redemption at the purchase price after 5 years and interest income of 3% for properties worth €350,000.

Will I be able to move around the European Union?

The Portuguese Golden Visa entitles you to visa-free entry to European Union countries.

How long does it take for an investor to get back the 500k invested?

An investment of 500k is returned by the investment fund in 5-10 years depending on the fund selected.
